3. And further deposeth not.

4. To the 10th article he saith It is the Custome of Angola, for every master
5. of a shipp that takes in Negroes there to pay or engage to pay
6. the Kings Customes which he is to receive againe att Bahia
7. of the factors to whom the Negars are ćonsigned, and those Costomes
8. doe arise to four millres per head for every peece of India
9. that is laden, and there were about 784 negars 917. Negars
10. laden att Angola for Portugall Aććcompt as aforesayd, but how many
11. peices of India the same did make he knoweth not ćertainly,
12. but by the proportion of his this deponents owne negers 24 of
13. which made 16 peeces of India, he ćonceyveth the sayd
14. 917 negers might amount to about 700 peices of India so as
15. the Royall Customes due for the same might amount to two
16. thousand eight hundred millres or thereabouts, And he doth
17. beleive that the sayd Captaine Hardidge did exther pay or give good
18. engagement to pay the sayd Customes be fore he ćame from
19. Angola, and was to have received the same att Bahia, but could
20. not so receyve the same, for that all things there belonging to the
21. English were seized upon as aforesayd. the premisses he ˹deposeth˺ knoweth
22. to be in manner aforesayd having made diligent enquiry there
23. and well observed the Custome and manner of those transactions
24. And further deposeth not.

25. To the 11th. article he saith there were of this deponents sight laden
26. att Bahia in the sayd shipp to be transported to Lisbon the severall
27. goods following att the freight and averidge hereafter sett forth
28. to say. 940 Cloths and XX fetches of sugar at 26. millres
29. per tonne of 54. acaves. and 160 Rees for every reafe for averidge
30. and 500. Rolls of tobaććo, and five barrells of sucketts, and
31. 216. great plankes and 17 peeces of Jaćaranda wood,. the
32. freight of all which together with the freight and averidge
33. of the sayd sugars so neere as this deponent ćan estimate the
34. same according to the publicke bills for freights and averidge
35. of goods sett forth att Bahia would and did amount to fourteene
36. thousand three hundred seventy five millres, the benefit
37. whereof had it not bene for the sayd seizure would have XXXXXXXd
38. to the Owners of the sayd shipp. And further deposeth not.

39. To the 12th article he saith that whilst the sayd shipp lay att Bahia
40. as aforesayd there was ˹of this deponents sight˺ faire plenty of sugar and so few shipps to transport
41. it that severall persons who had hired tonnage in the sayd shipp off
42. and from the Provador or Governour of Bahia did lett out their
43. sayd tonnage so hired to others and receyved two millres for the
44. place of each Chest in the tonnage so lett which benefit might
45. possibly have come to the sayd ffrancis Hardidge in case he had had
46. full power of his shipp. and the said ffrancis saith he might have
47. made 1400 millres proffitt therby. And firther deposeth not
