Biographical synthesis

Joseph Ashe (alt. Ash) (b. ca. 1620; d. ?). Merchant.

Resident in 1655 in the parish of Saint Bartholomew by the Exchange.

Possibly related to Jonathan Ash, residing at ffanchurch streete, London, in 1662, and his brother Edward Ash, also residing in 1652 in London.[1]

Evidence from High Court of Admiralty

May 1652

Thirty-one year old Jonathan Ash, merchant of London, dwelling in ffanchurch streete, deposed on May 30th 1652. He was examined on an allegation on behalf of Edward Ash in "The claime of Edward Ash of London merchant for eighteen cases of speckled sope and 14 of white taken in the Liesda". Jonathan Ash identifies Edward Ash as his brother.[2]

September 1655

Thirty-five year old Joseph Ashe deposed on September 5th 1655 in the High Court of Admiralty. He was examined on an allegation on behalf of Arnold Leon in the case of "The clayme of Arnold Leon for his goods in the shipp called the Sphera Mundi taken by some ship or shipps in the immediate service of this Commonwealth".[3]
