a mense January ult natus in Dunkirke
Nauta, M:r XXvis corat the Saint John ?Bayliss
annos agens 51 aut XXXX dicit et deponit XXXXX
sequitur videlicet

Ad primum rendet that hee this deponent and the Master of the said ship Saint John BayXXXX
and XX hath bin XXXX since the 25th of ffebruary last
new stile and knoweth her not afore, and saith that hee was
sent for from Ostend to come to Bruges by Mr Abraham Van XXXXX, and
BrXXXX XXXXX XXXX and the XXXX Justice Tollmaer, XXX Joose Asa
Mr Dambiel to goe Master of the said ship which was then at Brugges and hee goeing
thither accordingly XX made him Master of her the said ship, and saith that the said
persons were and are her owners but of what parts hee knoweth not nor knoweth
of whom or when they bought her saving that hee heard that they bought her
at XXXX in Zealand, and hee ?surmises that shee was there built and
sayth that all the said Owners live at Brugges and are all natives of
fflanders and Brabant and were and are subjects of the King of Spaine, and saith that since
hee hath bin her Master shee hath not bin in any Enemyes port or dominion
et alr nescit

Ad 2:XX rendit That the said ship is of the burthen of about two and thirty tonns
and when shee was taken shee had two hundred and ten barrells of herrings
and some smaller vessells of herenings in her XX the heringe they had taken for the
account of the said owners of the said ship which sent her out from Ostend with barrells and salt
upon a fishing voyage and they were to returne therewith to Ostend and thence
were to goe to Bruges and deliver the same to the said Owners and salt that
noe during hath any manner of interest therein or in the said ship
uponXX XXXX X salvation et alr salvis XXXXXXX nescit

Ad 3:XX et XX rend:t that hee and all his company were hired by the said Owners at
bruges to goe a fishing and to returne XXX againe and saith that before
this voyage hee made but one XXXXX which was called from Bruges on a fishing voyage on his said owners account
and was taken by a Scotch privateer and carryed into Leith, and was there
cleared and thence returned to Ostend without lading, and then began this voyage
and saith that his company consistes of nine men besides himselfe amd two
boyes, and saith that about seaven of them as hee beleeveth were borne in the Dominions of the
States of the United Provinces, but live with their wives and children in
Bruges and the rest are for ought hee knoweth to the contrary of fflanders
and saith that hee had not at the said ships seizure any bills of Lading onboard but
had other writings which came all to the Kings Officers hands and none of his writings
were torne burnt throwne overboard her or concealed, and sayth that the seizur
