Biographical synthesis
Edward Makkettuer (b. 1604; d. ?). Lighterman.
Resided in 1657 in Wapping in the parish of Stepney.
Evidence from High Court of Admiralty
Fifty-three year old Edward Makkettuer deposed on June 4th 1657 in the High Court of Admiralty. He was examined on an allegation on behalf of Pryor in the case of "Ewen against Pryor".[1]
Edward Makkettuer stated that "hee hath bin a lighter man belonging to the River of Thames and accustomed to take up and carry ballast there for fowerteene yeares last past and saith and hath bin a mariner for many yeares before that and and lived neere the Thames".[2]
