1. The same day. CENTRE HEADING
2. William Essex late Gunners Mate of the said shipp the
3. James aged 31 yeeres or thereabouts, sworne as aforesaid
4. deposeth.
5. That on the second day of June 1650 when the said shipp James was
6. seized at Lisbone by the officers of the king of Portugall and her master
7. and unto turned out and imprisoned, the persons hereunder named were
8. mariners of her company; and that they were shipt at the severall rates
9. per moneth, and suffered imprisonment and restraint and losse of
10. wages as followeth, videlicet Thomas Jones (shipped at 20 dollers
11. per moneth) suffered restraint and losse of wages for 7 monethes
12. John XXXX (shipt at 2li 10s per moneth) for 6 monethes 16 dayes,
13. Daniel Clarke shipt at 4li 16s per moneth, for 5 monethes 18 dayes,
14. William Essex this deponent shipt at 1li 3s per moneth, 5 monethes 22
15. dayes, John humphrey X shipt at 1li 16s per moneth, for 9 monethes
16. 8 dayes, Thomas Willie shipt at 1li 4s per moneth for 9 monethes
17. 8 dayes, Richard Bell at 1li 6s per moneth, 9 monethes 8 dayes,
18. Benjamin downe shipt at 1li 5s per moneth for 8 monethes 27
19. dayes; John Back, shipt at 1li 2s per moneth for 8 monthes 27
20. dayes and Edward More at 1li per moneth for 7 monethes i day
21. And further that they shall and today arived in England ˹in their necessarie maintenance during the said imprisonment˺ as followeth.
