Abstract & context

Ball is in Goa. He is short of money, and not prepared to use his own funds to travel by land, whilst also being worried about being taken prisoner by Sevajee. He has resolved to stay in Goa to await a ship to take him to Surat, and hopes this will be the cheaper option.

He is concerned that in recent letters from Sir George Oxenden to Carwar there was no mention of Ball and his future.
