homewards voyadge they did meete<br />
with the severall shipps arlate with<br />
which this rendent endeavoured to<br />
have kept Company but the said<br />
Soames and Chapman neglectinge<br />
theire watch and slackeing saile<br />
without and contrary to the order<br />
of this Rendent they left the Compa<br />
ny of the said shipps as hee beleeveth<br />
which as hee beleeveth did come safe<br />
to this porte of London but this<br />
REndent being by the neglect of the<br />
said Soames and Chapman in theire<br />
watch put out of his course was by<br />
the said Soames perswaded and<br />
importuned to steere that course<br />
which brought him into Saint Georges<br />
Channell and afterwards upon the<br />
second of June 1650 neere the Isle<br />
of Wight the said shippe was chaced<br />
and sett upon by Jersey men of warre<br />
where the said parties agent respective<br />
ly did refuse to make resistance by<br />
which meanes the shipp was presently<br />
taken one full fourth parte whereof<br />
did belonge to this Rendent and a<br />
great parte of her ladeing in all<br />
to the value of one Thousand<br />
poundes of lawfull money of<br />
England and after they were taken<br />
and brought to Jersey the said<br />
