  • Replace 'This is the footnote text' with the footnote you wish to add, using the format: first name, surname, title, (place of publication, date of publication), page or folio number
  • Save the page

Aaron Compert of Wappinge in the Countye of Middlesex Shipwright aged
about 51 yeares sworne before the worshipfull William Sames Doctor of
Lawes Surrogate to the right worshipfull Sir Henry Marten knighte and Judge
of his Majestyes high Court of the Admiralty sayeth and deposeth uppon
his oath as followeth videlicet

That he knoweth a shipp calld the Griffin
nowe lyeinge on shoare at Waooinge, which shipp hath bene remayninge
n the river of Thanes for these three quarters of a yeare last past
and is nowe lesse worth to be sould in her hull masts yards sayles Cables
and other her tackle and furniture by the somme of fiftye pounds then she
was about three quarters of a yeare since when she came first into
the river of Thames, and the sayd shipp and her tackle and furniture wil be
lesse worth every day then other, and doth take more hurt by
lyeinge on grounde beinge a flemish bottome and her Cables doe rott more
by continuall lyeinge in the water then they would if the
sayd shipp were imployed and sett forth on a voyage, and her plancks and seames of her upper
works by the sunne and the winde doe open and rende for wante
of caulkinge and tarringe. The premisses he knoweth to bee true beinge
a shipwrighte who liveth neere the place where the sayd shipp lyeth and
doth often see her And this he affirmeth uppon his oath to be true./
